Frequently Asked Questions

Curious about income-based housing options? Start by exploring our FAQ's below.

Subsidized Housing refers to housing where the government helps cover part of the rent to make it more affordable for low-income individuals and families. This assistance can come through programs like public housing, housing choice vouchers (Section 8), or rent-restricted units.

A Section 8 voucher refers to a specific kind of subsidy that allows the recipient to choose an affordable housing option of their choice. As long as a landlord agrees to participate, the Section 8 voucher will cover part of the cost of rent, while the tenant pays the difference. Select Brandywine Communities participate with Section 8.

Eligibility is typically based on income, household size, and other factors, including age. Each program may have its own specific requirements, and applicants typically need to provide documentation to verify their eligibility.

Yes, there are often waiting lists for subsidized housing. Due to high demand and limited availability, these lists can be lengthy, and wait times may vary from several months to even years depending on the location and program. It’s important to apply as early as possible and keep your information up to date while waiting.

We’re unable to provide an exact timeframe for when an apartment or housing might become available. Availability can change unexpectedly as individuals find alternative housing, relocate, or—particularly in senior communities—pass away. We encourage applicants to remain patient and keep their contact information up to date so we can reach out when a unit opens.

We understand the urgency of your situation; however, due to existing wait lists, we are often unable to provide immediate housing through our senior or income-based programs.
